Homeschool Clubhouse Co-Op Classes

We can only offer the co-op classes that parents volunteer to teach. We aim to offer at least two “academic enrichment” classes and at least one “elective” for each age group, although it is usually possible to schedule all elective classes if that is preferred.

What types of co-op classes do you offer?

What co-op classes do you have scheduled?

This is a tentative fall schedule. Our goal is to offer students at least two choices for each class period to accommodate our many different learners. Currently, we have teachers scheduled for the below class offerings.

If you're thinking of joining and have an idea for a different co-op class you would like to teach, please let us know! We're open to families' suggestions and ideas!

Homeschool Clubhouse Co-Op Class Schedule

The schedule is subject to change as more parents volunteer and choose classes they want to teach. Updates will be posted periodically.

Class Descriptions

Pre-K and Kindergarten:

Play Doh Learning

In this hands-on class, students will utilize play doh as a sensory-rich learning medium to explore various themes and learn through play and discovery. This class has been offered at the co-op previously and was well-loved by students and parents.

Gameschooling

In this class, children will share and play together with a variety of toys. Activities may include pretend play, building, and age-appropriate movement games.

Play Pretend!

In this class, kids take the lead to whatever adventures they can imagine. With a variety of costumes, puppets, and props, children can dress up, explore, play, and let their imaginations run wild. This class will be monitored by parents with one teacher serving as an organizer.

Elementary:

Block 1

Early History of the Americas Unit Study

This class will be a multi-disciplinary exploration of North and Central America, before the United States was founded. We will explore the histories of the indigenous people of the Americas and how they lived on this vast continent from modern day Alaska and Canada to Central America and sea to shining sea.

We will read stories, create art, learn about animals, plants valued for food and medicine, and the diverse ecosystems of our incredible continent. If we have time in the Spring semester, we will move into the Age of Exploration and learn about early explorers, navigation, and the oceans and seas.

Art Lab

This class will be a delightfully engaging creativity lab in which students will explore different mediums to create original art.

Students will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in class and display their work in our Fall art exhibition and our Spring showcase.

Block 2

(a) Math Lab 1

This class is going to make math seriously fun! Through games, challenges, and a variety of hands-on activities, students will strengthen foundational mathematical understanding, numeracy, and fluency.

You’ll find no worksheets or timed math drills here. This class is a stress-free zone and will focus on practicing and reinforcing math concepts typically covered in K-2nd grade math curricula.

(b) Math Lab 2

Building on their foundational math skills, students will participate in engaging hands-on activities to grow in understanding and confidence with math reasoning, problem-solving, and skills typically covered in 3rd-5th grade math curricula.

Like Math Lab 1, you’ll find no worksheets here. Activities will involve games, manipulatives, fun challenges, and more.

(c) Art (10+)

Students 10+ will learn and practice painting and other art medium techniques and hone their skills creating beautiful art.

Students will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in class and display their work in our Fall art exhibition and our Spring showcase.

Seats in this class are limited.

Block 3

Science 1

This class will feature selected lessons, labs, and hands-on activities from Real Science Odyssey’s Earth and Space, Physics, and Life Science curricula. Rather than choose one topic, we will choose units from various disciplines of science to keep kids interested and engaged all year. We’ll cover some geology, astronomy, Newton’s laws, simple machines, magnetism, waves, body systems, botany, animals, insects, and more.

Like all of our classes, we’ll be doing hand-on activities that reinforce and expound on what students are learning at home, offering opportunities for group participation and social learning experiences. Students will have the opportunity to utilize the scientific method to participate in a co-op science fair in the Spring semester.

*Younger students may prefer participating in Play Pretend or Games Outdoors- up to parent discretion

(b) Games Outdoors (all ages)

Full description found at end of document, Middle and High School 3(b). Parent monitored.

Middle and High School:

Block 1

Fallacies and Critical Thinking

Students will learn about the common logical fallacies, and have the opportunity to practice recognizing them in the context of historical and current events.

They will also have opportunities to practice respectful discussion and debate, participate in critical thinking skills challenges, and learn the importance of media literacy.

*It should be noted that this class will not be attempting to teach children what to think, as we believe it is the parents’ job to pass their values on to their children. This class will focus on teaching students how to think: to recognize bias and faulty logic, and to create strong arguments to express their ideas well.

Block 2

(a) History

It’s all connected. Rather than look at history as a timeline, in this class we will look at how goods and ideas spread across time and place, like a web. In this interdisciplinary class we will explore topics and movements including art, technology, food, and more!

Want examples? How did a bean from Ethiopia help start the American Revolution? What does a worm in China have to do with canons in Europe? How did an ancient Indian astronomer make your cellphone possible? We will explore these and other connections in the web of history with hands-on activities, short videos, experiments, map work, and more.

*Note: Some classes will discuss religions as historical and cultural shaping ideas. Material will not be presented as encouraging or evaluating the merit of any religion.

(b) Art (10+)

Students 10+ will learn and practice painting and other art medium techniques and hone their skills creating beautiful art.

Students will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in class and display their work in our Fall art exhibition and our Spring showcase if desired.

Seats in this class are limited.

Block 3

(a) High School Science Labs

Utilizing selected topics and lessons from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, this class will complete units doing experiments and labs from all high school science disciplines.

Students will hone their observation skills, think critically utilizing the scientific method, complete a lab report, and have the opportunity to present their own research project in our spring science fair at the co-op.

(b) Games Outdoors (all ages)

For students who are done with the structured classes after lunch, all ages have the option of going outdoors to play. In addition to the playground equipment, if parents want to organize PE activities, they are welcome to utilize the sports equipment in the deck box outdoors.

Students also have the option of playing board games on the pavilion if they don’t feel like running around.

This class option is parent-monitored, and is an “all hands on deck” situation. Parents must supervise their own children, and also assist in watching the others as some parents may be teaching or helping in other classes.

Parents are responsible to help children pick up and take good care of all play equipment and board games, and to treat the landscaping and grounds with respect and care
